Donation is 100% Free
No matter where you are located in the USA or abroad, all direct costs related to testing are 100% covered by the Tedoff Family's insurance and all indirect costs are covered by Renewal. No potential donor (nor a donor who is ultimately identified to move forward with the procedure) will incur any costs directly or indirectly related to the procedure (medical services, food, lodging, travel, lost wages etc.). However, a selected donor would need to be willing to undergo the procedure either at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA or Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City, NY or Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
Determining Initial Eligibility
Fortunately, Ira’s blood type is compatible with all blood types. If you are in good health, most likely you are eligible to undergo initial testing to see if you are a match. We strongly suggest that individuals interested in donation contact a Donor Coordinator at RENEWAL to begin the process.
Renewal is a philanthropic organization that is a comprehensive resource for kidney donors and recipients that is assisting Ira in his search for a donor.

Free Confidential Testing
Interested donors can choose to explore donation and be tested for eligibility and compatibility without the recipient or his family's knowledge. An interested donor can decide to withdraw from the testing procedure at any time.
Medical testing must be conducted to determine donor eligibility with regards to a number of factors. Interested parties will first have a brief phone consultation with a Donor Coordinator at Renewal, and then be sent additional information about next steps accordingly. The Donor Coordinator can also assist in the coordination of testing at a facility outside of Atlanta or New York if necessary, if an interested individual is from out of state or located outside of the United States. All direct costs related to donor testing are covered by Ira's (the recipient's) health insurance, and all indirect costs are covered by Renewal. Similarly, should a donor be found, all costs related to the procedure and post-operative care (including reimbursement of lost wages) will be covered by Ira's insurance and Renewal.
More details about the different stages of testing can be found here.

The recipient and his family will only learn of a potential donor’s decision to donate, once the donor has given official permission to make said information available.
